About the museum
The Ecomuseo “Terre al Confine” tells the story of the Moncenisio pass, always a place of passage for trade, pilgrims and armies and a meeting point for many plant species. The exhibition room occupies the former recreation room of the customs officers and illustrates everyday life in the past: work in the high-pasture huts and milk production, haymaking, porters and mountain guides.
The ecomuseum route also includes an outdoor itinerary with several stops: the wash-house and bread oven, the mill, the history of the Fell railway towards the Moncenisio, the chapel of San Giuseppe and its contemporary art, the parish church of San Giorgio Martire, the centuries-old ash tree with its legends, the chapel of Santa Barbara and Sant’Antonio and the alpine pasture of San Nicola.
The ecomuseum is run by the Comune di Moncenisio, which offers a free visit to discover rural life and traditional trades.
