About the museum
The ecomuseum was established to preserve the memory of an activity linked to the woodland and its resources: cutting wood and making charcoal were an important occupation for many mountain communities in the Casentino until the mid-20th century. The techniques, handed down from generation to generation, are still practised for demonstration purposes in some villages of the Pratomagno, such as Cetica.
The museum is set up in the premises of the village’s former school, opposite the ancient Romanesque church of Sant’Angelo. The route includes two spaces devoted to the charcoal burner’s trade, with panels and working tools, and a multipurpose room for screening audiovisual material from the archive of the Banca della Memoria of the Unione dei Comuni del Casentino, with panels on the community map of the Alta Valle del Solano.
The Casa dei Sapori is a teaching workshop and tasting space dedicated to local products, in particular the red potato of Cetica. In the nearby green area, the Pro Loco has rebuilt two charcoal burners’ huts and a charcoal kiln for educational purposes.
