About the museum
The Ecomuseo della Terracotta of Ronco Biellese was established in 1995. Its core is a significant collection of “bielline”, typical products of local craftsmanship that made Ronco one of the most important centres in Piedmont for the production of everyday earthenware. The finds represent the manual and creative art of the ancient craftsmen and refer to the themed route, which illustrates the typical places of the terracotta production process.
The ecomuseum is an indoor museum with a workshop and visitor centre, and is one of the cells of the Ecomuseo del Biellese. The route through Ronco’s landscape, about 3 km long, is marked by information panels; each stage is like an open-air room with its own works of value. A vehicle is recommended for moving between the stages.
Services offered include guided tours of the collection and the route, a film on the history and production of terracotta, hands-on practice in the workshop of the Scuola delle terrecotte and educational activities. In autumn and spring, courses in terracotta modelling and ceramic decoration are held.
