About the museum
Val di Peio, in Trentino, at the foot of the Ortles-Cevedale group, was recognised as an ecomuseum in 2002 thanks to the initiatives of its community to rediscover its cultural roots. The ecomuseum is run by the Associazione LINUM and covers the hamlets of Peio, Cogolo, Celledizzo, Comasine and Celentino.
The headquarters is in the Casa dell’Ecomuseo in Celentino, in the former primary school that volunteers have turned into a venue for meetings, workshops and exhibitions. At the entrance, tools for the traditional processing of flax are permanently displayed; on the first floor, after an overview of weaving with reproductions of prehistoric looms, is the Laboratorio permanente di tessitura dedicated to master Gianni Rigotti, while on the ground floor the room “Lana e Aromi” is devoted to felted wool and the drying of herbs.
The valley visit continues with other sites of the ecomuseum: Casa Grazioli, the Museo del Legno, the Museo del Contadino, the Museo dell’Epigrafia, the Museo della Guerra di Peio, the Caseificio turnario (shared dairy) and Palazzo Migazzi, as well as ethnographic trails dedicated to minerals, water, the sacred and the First World War.
