About the museum
The museum occupies the former Fabbrica dei Cristalli Pernici e Bolognini, founded in Carisolo in 1805 and in operation until 1888. The factory stood at the mouth of the Val di Genova: quartz from the veins of the Val Rendena, timber from the area to fuel the furnace and water from the Sarca as motive power made the site suitable.
Specialist craftsmen from Bohemia, Alsace and Lorraine worked there, producing refined crystal objects according to Central European techniques, which were also appreciated at European courts. The descendants of the founders later converted the building into a museum.
The rooms display antique glassmaking tools, period photographs, original documents and pieces of nineteenth-century crystal.
