About the museum
The Ecomuseo della Vallesanta arose from a community project promoted by the Associazione Ecomuseo della Vallesanta, presented to residents in 2009 with a paper community map. Today it is part of the network of the Ecomuseo del Casentino, run by the Unione dei Comuni Montani del Casentino, and tells the story of the valley that opens out in the municipality of Chiusi della Verna, within the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi.
The museum is spread across the territory and has no single base. Its points of reference are the former school at Corezzo, used for meetings and workshops; the exhibition space at Mercatale, devoted to local knowledge and products; and the Narciso granary at Frassineta, which houses a small permanent exhibition on the material culture of the valley.
The community map is now also available in electronic form and gathers video interviews, songs, anecdotes and testimonies, partly from the Banca della Memoria of the Comunità Montana del Casentino. To explore the area, guided walks are organised starting from Corezzo.
