About the museum

Bagneri is a small alpine hamlet at about 900 m above sea level, in the Valle Elvo, a hamlet of Muzzano. The ecomuseum dedicated to mountain civilisation and tradition features an early 20th-century carpentry workshop, memories of the old school, the traditional chestnut-drying kiln (the graa) and the chestnut room. The hamlet can only be reached on foot along the mule track, and it preserves the parish church with its cemetery overlooking the Mucrone, the statue of the Madonna del Piumin and other sculptures, including stone works by the young artist Cecilia Martin Birsa.

The Associazione Amici di Bagneri “Enrica Simone”, founded in 2004, supports the vitality of the hamlet by combining the recovery of material culture with the development of new craft activities. On Sundays visitors are welcomed by the association’s volunteers and in summer by staff of the Rete Museale Biellese. Bagneri hosts a cell of the Ecomuseo Valle Elvo e Serra, with which it collaborates together with the Comune di Muzzano.

For more than forty years the village has been visited by the Scouts of Biella, who combine educational activities with care for the territory. The Casa Scout, converted from the old parish house, offers accommodation to groups, families and parishes. Over the year the community organises events such as the fagiolata (bean feast), the festa delle erbe (herb festival), the festa di San Bernardo and the festa delle castagne (chestnut festival). Educational activities are possible all year round, for example on carpentry, chestnut trees and sculpture.
