About the museum
The Passion of Sordevolo has been staged by the villagers since 1816 and is repeated every five years. The museum, inaugurated in 2005, lets visitors learn about this tradition also in the years when the performance is not staged. It is set up in the choir and sacristy of the 17th-century church of Santa Marta, which is documented as early as 1563.
The two exhibition rooms are organised into eight thematic corners devoted to the staging, the script, the volunteers, the costumes and the children’s Passion. The route presents over 300 photographs and seven films, including those of the 1924 and 1934 editions, and two multimedia displays with captions in Italian and English. Digital reconstructions made with the Politecnico di Torino reproduce parts of the performances of 1934 and 1950. The ticket also includes a visit to the church, which hosts exhibitions and summer concerts.
