About the museum
The museum is housed in the ancient church of San Marco and its sacristies, which are no longer used for worship. The building was commissioned by Ser Francesco Rattoli, a merchant of Mombaroccio with strong trading ties to Venice, and completed in 1427. In the 16th century the church was linked to the neighbouring convent, entrusted to the Girolamini, who stayed in the community even after the Napoleonic and Savoy suppressions; later the complex passed to the municipality.
The structure retains its late 18th-century appearance, while of the 15th-century core remain the tympanum of the portal and the inscription with the foundation year. The collections reflect the devotional and artistic history of the place: 17th-century wooden sculptures of popular workmanship depicting Saint Jerome, the Blessed Peter and the Madonna of Loreto, an 18th-century organ, a carved walnut choir, a wooden Crucifix, and the apse altarpiece with the Madonna and Child with saints. Among the liturgical furnishings stand out the reliquaries and a gilded wooden urn containing the body of Saint Clement.
In the convent complex there is also the Museo della Civiltà Contadina in the basement, the Raccolta Fotografica in the cloister and the Mostra del Ricamo (embroidery exhibition).
