About the museum
The Fondazione Alviero Moretti was founded in the early 2000s in Deruta, the Umbrian town of majolica, with the aim of protecting, safeguarding and promoting artists’ ceramics. It is named after Alviero Moretti (1933–2010), founder of the factory L’Antica Deruta and, in the late 1970s, promoter of collaboration between ceramic craftsmen and Italian contemporary artists.
The institutional seat, inaugurated in August 2011, occupies a historic building in the centre of Deruta, near the Museo Regionale della Ceramica, and holds the complete collection of the Foundation’s works. The collection makes it possible to follow the development of 20th-century art through ceramics by major artists.
The Foundation organises exhibitions, conferences and international initiatives and has carried out projects such as the Catalogo Generale, Natale d’Autore and Multipli d’Artista. Its operational headquarters are at L’Antica Deruta.
