About the museum
The gallery, opened in 1990, is named after Vero Stoppioni, the founder of the Premio Campigna, an annual contemporary art event held in Santa Sofia. The collections include works from the mid-20th century to the present, partly acquired through the editions of the prize.
Among the most important works are those of Mattia Moreni (1920–1999), such as the large mixed-media work “Mistura” and a series of self-portraits from the cycle “Regressione della specie e belle arti” (regression of the species and fine arts). Temporary exhibitions complement the permanent works.
The gallery is linked to the Parco di sculture del Letto del Bidente, an open-air trail with installations by Italian and international artists (including Staccioli, Nagasawa, Maraniello and Pomodoro) spread across the territory of Santa Sofia.
