About the museum

The museum was founded in 1980 as a permanent collection of flora and fauna, built up through donations from private collectors and institutions, including the Province of Forlì-Cesena, the Municipality of Premilcuore, the former Azienda di Stato per le Foreste Demaniali (State Forestry Agency) of Pratovecchio and Stia, and the Pro Natura association of Forlì.

In 1993 the Municipality and the Province decided to reorganise the collections for educational purposes, rebuilding small animal and plant ecosystems. The museum is housed in a visitor centre of the Parco nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna, in Via Roma, in the centre of Premilcuore.

The rooms hold dioramas with the species of the park: red deer, wolf and fallow deer, several species of birds of prey, insects, amphibians and reptiles. The museum also runs educational activities.
