About the museum
Geobiolab – Laboratorio europeo della naturalità is an educational museum and laboratory devoted to geology and biology, active since 2007 in the contrada Pontecorvo in Benevento and part of the museum network of the Province of Benevento. The overall design of the project is due to Professor Carmine Guarino of the University of Sannio, while the science communication concept is by Paco Lanciano, who worked with Piero Angela on the television programme Superquark.
The route covers about 1,000 square metres and combines science and play, following the motto of teaching while having fun. Virtual reality, staged reconstructions, talking machines, 3D films, photographs, exhibits and experimental workshops guide visitors through the history of the Earth and the evolution of biodiversity, with particular attention to the Sannio area.
The guided visit is divided into two main thematic routes: GEO, devoted to the Earth, and BIO, devoted to life. Topics include the formation of the Earth’s crust, volcanic phenomena and the water cycle, as well as the origin of flora and fauna and the diversification of species. The museum also offers a children’s workshop that simulates a palaeontological dig, by reservation.
