About the museum
The art garden lies next to Villa Clara, the residence of the artist Piero Bonacina in the lower part of Montegiovi, a hamlet of Castel del Piano. The site has a panoramic position over the valley of the Ente and Zancona rivers, the so-called “conca d’oro” (golden basin), and from there the peak of Monte Labbro can be seen.
The setting is simple and lived-in: an olive grove with plants, flowers and cats, in which sculptures in metal, concrete, stone, wood, Manciano sandstone and Saturnia travertine are placed. The works, of an allegorical character, at times recall artists such as Giacometti, Brâncuși, Henry Moore and Duchamp, and address themes such as chaos, human ambition, migrations in the Mediterranean and the ages of life.
The visit is led by the artist himself and continues inside the house, where there is the studio with works in progress and the tools of the trade, and the rooms of the home furnished with sculptures and paintings.
