About the museum
The museum, in Piazza Garibaldi in Santa Fiora, was created to bear witness to the history of the Monte Amiata mercury mines and the sacrifices made by the miners. It is run by the Associazione Minatori per il Museo. The museum’s website is a project funded by the Parco Nazionale delle Miniere dell’Amiata.
The route, with historical documentation, tries to bring back to life the working conditions of the past and of more recent times, the social organisation and development of the mines on Monte Amiata, and illustrates the toil and risks of this trade. The website also offers sections on the territory and the mining towns, an archive of interviews, photographs and historical documents, a collection of minerals and a virtual tour.
The museum is also present on Google Arts and Culture.
