About the museum
Oscar Piattella (Pesaro 1932 – Urbino 2023) lived and worked in Cantiano from 1957, the home town of his wife, which he chose as the place for his painting. To pay tribute to his artistic career, the municipality of Cantiano has dedicated a permanent exhibition space to his works.
The exhibition, entitled “I Muri” (The Walls), gathers paintings from the period 1977–1988, in which the wall becomes a surface of signs, memory and matter. The municipality plans to expand it with other works by the artist, and perhaps with works by internationally renowned artists, to create a true museum of contemporary art.
The space is part of a wider restoration of the village's historic buildings, which also house the archaeological and geological museums of Cantiano. According to the Ministero della Cultura, guided visits with the artist are possible.
