About the museum

“Il territorio come ecomuseo” is a project of the Provincial Administration of Cremona to explore and discover the landscape as the result of the relationship between people and their environment. The ecomuseum is a dispersed museum covering the whole province, made up of some twenty territorial units, including hydraulic junctions, fontanili (spring-fed ponds), clay pits, hydroelectric power stations, the bastions of Pizzighettone and the lanche (backwaters) of the Po.

The project has been enriched by the exhibition spaces of the Cascina Stella, a typical Cremona farmhouse within the Bosco Didattico of Castelleone, renovated by the Province and now home to the museo laboratorio del paesaggio padano (museum laboratory of the Po Valley landscape). Panels and display cases illustrate the history of the Cremona landscape and the physical, natural and human processes that have led to its present form.

The route is designed for a curious public of all ages, but is aimed above all at primary and lower secondary schools, with educational activities offered since the 2009–2010 school year. The Bosco Didattico, of about 25 hectares, is dedicated to the biodiversity of the plain.
