About the museum
The museum opened in June 2008 in the premises of the former Lodigraf printing works, later Il Pomerio, which was active until the early 1980s. Its main founder, Andrea Schiavi, with the support of experts in the field, created here a museum dedicated to the history of typographic and artistic printing over the centuries.
The displays occupy about 2,000 square metres that retain the architectural features of the old workshop. Perfectly restored machines and equipment illustrate the different techniques, from hand composition with lead and wooden type to mechanical type-casting, from intaglio printing to relief printing, and on to papermaking, with a small working teaching plant.
The museum is run by an association that organises workshops for schools, courses, meetings and presentations. It has a bookshop with items made in its workshops and a technical library with a documentation centre.
