About the museum

The Fondazione Museo Kartell was established in 1999 by Claudio Luti on the occasion of the company’s fiftieth anniversary; Kartell itself was founded in 1949. The museum preserves and promotes the material and immaterial heritage of Kartell and presents design through exhibitions and educational activities; in 2000 it received the Premio Guggenheim Impresa & Cultura.

The museum is located at the Noviglio plant, near Milan. In 2014, for the fifteenth anniversary of the foundation, it was redesigned to tell the story of the company since 1949 and was enriched with a space on the ground floor for temporary exhibitions.

The permanent exhibition, designed by Ferruccio Laviani and curated by Elisa Storace, traces the history of Kartell from household objects to lamps and furniture. Around 8,000 objects are kept in the storerooms; the Spazio Archivio holds over 700 projects, 6,000 drawings and 30,000 photographs.
