About the museum
The ecomuseum preserves the memory of the old craft of making and cane-seating chairs, which from the mid-19th century to the 1980s employed many families in Azeglio. It is run by the volunteer association ARTEV OdV.
The exhibition venue “La Cadrega fiurija” opened in 2004 and includes an exhibition gallery, a reconstructed dining room, a kitchen with a corner dedicated to chair-caning and a carpentry workshop. Two adjoining rooms have recently been partly restored to house a teaching room and a documentation centre with a bookshop.
The second part of the ecomuseum is the “Sentiero della lesca”, a nature trail through the woods along the Azeglio shore of Lake Viverone, where you can see the marsh grass (lesca) once used for chair-caning.
