About the museum
The museum “La Steiva” takes its name from the stiva, the handle of the plough, a symbol of work in the fields. It preserves testimonies of the rural society of Piverone and the surrounding area between the 19th and 20th centuries.
A historical archive holds photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, men's and women's costumes and military uniforms with their accessories. Several rural rooms have been reconstructed: a 19th-century farmhouse kitchen, a bedroom, a room for weaving hemp and knitting, a carpenter's workshop and a cellar, as well as a corner devoted to the school.
The agricultural section presents ploughs, harrows, carts and tools for growing maize and vines. The museum also covers viticulture, beekeeping, silkworm rearing, carpentry, hemp weaving and women's crafts such as sewing, embroidery and laundry.
