About the museum
The MuST, Museo delle Scienze e del Territorio, was established in 2019, but its roots go back to the second half of the 19th century. It reopened in 2023 after a renewal, with a new display inaugurated in February between Largo Ermini and Vicolo San Matteo.
The historic core is the collection of Count Francesco Toni, a self-taught naturalist born in Spoleto in 1824, who gathered fossils, minerals and archaeological and ethnographic objects and showed them to visitors in the family palace. The collection exceeds six thousand pieces and was donated to the Comune di Spoleto in 1999.
During the renovation the museum also acquired the zoological collection of Professor Bernardino Ragni. The route uses geology and biology to show how the landscape and nature of the area have changed over time, from the history of life beginning in the Palaeozoic to the present day. The museum also offers educational programmes, workshops, excursions and training courses.
