About the museum
The open-air museum is an outdoor trail through the village of Sesta Inferiore, in the municipality of Corniglio, in the Parco dei Cento Laghi (Parco regionale delle Valli del Cedra e del Parma). Opened in 2008, it is built around the frescoes that the painter Walter Madoi created in the early 1960s on the external walls of the village houses.
Figures in an expressionist style, from portraits to still lifes, are painted directly on the walls of the village. The route also passes the parish church of San Rocco, which holds a cycle dedicated to the Crucifixion for which local residents posed, and the house where the artist stayed.
The museum is part of the park’s thematic trails and is managed by the Parchi del Ducato body; some paintings show signs of deterioration, but most are still clearly legible.
