About the museum

The Mediamuseum was founded in Pescara in 1995 to mark the centenary of the birth of cinema. With the availability of new premises in Piazza Emilio Alessandrini, the exhibition was expanded to cover the fields of cinema, theatre and television.

The museum is not only a collection of relics of memory but also a centre of activity: it hosts film workshops, theatre courses and meetings on the performing arts, as well as the Progetto Mediamuseum for younger visitors, with puppet shows, animated readings, storytelling and animated films. Activities also take place in the morning on request from nursery and primary schools, and periodically in the afternoon.

The museum holds on a free loan the collection of vintage film machines acquired in 2009 by the Fondazione Pescarabruzzo: over a hundred pieces, including 35 mm projectors and projectors for smaller formats (16, 9.5 and 8 mm), which document the technical evolution of professional and amateur cinema.
