About the museum
The permanent archaeological exhibition “Tiziano Mannoni” in Zignago opened in 2003 and tells the ancient history of the Upper Val di Vara through finds from excavations in the area. The display is divided into two sections: the Bronze Age, around 1300 BC, with materials from the excavations at the Castellari, and the medieval period, with finds from the village on Monte Zignago (14th century).
The collection includes vessels and large pots, spindle whorls, a sickle, a knife, a balance and an anti-wolf collar, objects linked to daily, agricultural and pastoral life. The display is educational, with illustrated boards and two models reconstructing the prehistoric and medieval settlements.
The centrepiece is the cast of the statue-stele found in 1827 at Novà. The original, kept in Genoa, dates from the Copper Age and was reworked in the Iron Age with an Etruscan inscription.
