About the museum
The museum is based in Longobucco, in the former convent of the Friars Minor, and presents itself as a showcase of the territory of the Sila plateau and its people. The route illustrates local craftsmanship, from weaving to metalwork and goldsmithing, through to woodworking and stonework, and addresses the theme of environmental protection.
The display recalls an ancient tradition: Longobucco is known for its carpets and hand-embroidered woven fabrics of wool, cotton and silk, and in the late Middle Ages it was the site of the most important silver mining activity in the Kingdom of Naples.
