About the museum
The Cupone visitor centre stands on the site of a former state sawmill at Cupone, on the shores of Lake Cecita, within the Sila National Park. It is conceived as an environmental education centre and is among the most visited places in the park.
The geological garden at the entrance displays rocks and minerals from the Sila, each accompanied by a technical card; children can look at and touch the stones. The nature museum, devoted to biodiversity, includes a multimedia room, educational workshops, a conference room and an exhibition room on the theme of the tree, with finds and objects confiscated by the Corpo Forestale dello Stato, derived from endangered species.
Nature trails and wildlife viewpoints start from the centre and also lead to the Cupone archaeological site on the lake shore, where finds dating from the Neolithic and Eneolithic have come to light. The Reparto Carabinieri Biodiversità di Cosenza organises guided tours and activities for all ages.
