About the museum

The museums are in the Seminario vescovile di Treviso, in the former Dominican convent, and house three collections that resulted from donations. The Museo zoologico “Giuseppe Scarpa” (Zoological Museum) derives from the collection assembled by the Treviso naturalist Giuseppe Scarpa from 1870 and donated to the seminary in 1914. It holds over 2,000 specimens of vertebrates and invertebrates, including sharks, marsh birds, songbirds and birds of prey, reptiles, amphibians and mammals, with collections of minerals and shells.

The Museo etnografico “Dino Grossa” (Ethnographic Museum) comes from the donation of the missionary Dino Grossa, who worked in Venezuela from 1949 to 1960, and displays objects of Amazonian peoples such as the Piaroa and Warao, often made from animal bones: arrows, necklaces, containers and wind instruments.

The Museo archeologico “Angelo e Antonio Campagner” (Archaeological Museum), opened in 1993 and dedicated to the brothers who were missionaries in South America from 1948 to 1970, displays Inca artefacts and pre-Roman finds from the Veneto. The complex is completed by a collection of antique scientific instruments and sound, photographic and film archives.
