About the museum
The museum grew out of the commitment of the abbot Luigi Bailo (1835–1932), its first director, who in 1879 founded the Museo Trivigiano, gathering works of art and finds from the city. It is housed in a former convent in Borgo Cavour, in Treviso.
After the damage suffered during the war, the museum reopened in 1952 and in 1959 was extended with a section of modern art. Closed in 2003 for structural reasons, it was renovated to a design by Studiomas and Heinz Tesar and reopened on 29 October 2015.
The Galleria del Novecento, the permanent core of the museum, brings together about 340 works from the late 19th century to the first half of the 20th century and devotes particular attention to Arturo Martini (Treviso 1889 – Milan 1947), one of the greatest Italian sculptors of the century.
