About the museum
The Seminario vescovile di Bedonia grew out of a school for future priests founded in the first half of the 19th century by Don Giovanni Agazzi. Construction of the building began in 1841 with the support of the community, and the seminary was inaugurated on 25 July 1846. Bishop Luigi Sanvitale and the first rector, Giuseppe Bailo, are regarded as among its founders. Since 1981 it has no longer housed seminarians and is now a centre for spirituality and training.
The building houses the museum complex, which showcases the seminary’s teaching collections and donations. It includes the Pinacoteca Parmigiani, the Museo Archeologico, the Museo di Storia Naturale, the Museo MUSA with the woodcut work of Romeo Musa, the exhibition on popular devotion and a planetarium.
The offer is completed by the historic library, with texts from the 16th to the early 20th century, the modern library, the study centre dedicated to Cardinal Agostino Casaroli, Vatican Secretary of State from 1979 to 1990, and the documentation centre on emigration, with material on the Taro and Ceno valleys from the 16th to the 20th century.
