About the museum
The Museo contadino came about through the initiative of Don Sandro Lagomarsini, parish priest of Cassego, a hamlet of Varese Ligure. Between 1971 and 1974 he gathered testimonies, tools and objects of rural life in the area from house to house, and in 1975 he opened a permanent exhibition.
The route documents the rural culture of the Alta Val di Vara through its different work cycles: milk, wine, wheat, maize, chestnuts and hemp, with reconstructions of a craft workshop and a rustic kitchen. The objects show trades and customs that have since disappeared and link the collection to the landscape and community of the La Spezia hinterland.
The museum is part of the local ecomuseum network and is located along the provincial road in Cassego.
