About the museum

Villa Torlonia, on the Via Nomentana, was for more than a century the country residence of the Torlonia family. During the 19th century the park was enriched with numerous buildings and decorative elements, including the Casino Nobile, the main residence, the Casino dei Principi, the Casina delle Civette and the Serra Moresca.

Between 1925 and 1943 the villa was rented to Benito Mussolini, who lived there with his family; the underground air-raid shelters, which can now be visited, date from that period. After the war the buildings fell into neglect, and only with the restorations promoted by Roma Capitale were they recovered and opened as civic museums.

Today the Musei di Villa Torlonia comprise the Casino Nobile, with decorated rooms, the Casina delle Civette, with its Art Nouveau stained-glass windows, the Casino dei Principi, the Serra Moresca with the Torre Moresca, and the bunker.
