About the museum

The Casina delle Civette stands in the park of Villa Torlonia, on the Via Nomentana, and was commissioned by Prince Giovanni Torlonia junior, who had it enriched with Art Nouveau (liberty) decorations and stained-glass windows. After a long period of neglect it was restored by Roma Capitale and opened to the public as a museum.

The core of the museum is the collection of artistic stained-glass windows made between 1908 and 1930 in the workshop of Cesare Picchiarini, to designs by Duilio Cambellotti, Umberto Bottazzi, Vittorio Grassi and Paolo Paschetto. Alongside the original glass, sketches and full-scale cartoons are displayed, documenting the development of stained glass in Rome in the early 20th century.

The route passes through rooms such as the Stanza delle civette, the Stanza della Torretta, the Salottino dei satiri, the prince's bedroom, the Balcone delle rose and the Scala delle quattro stagioni.
