About the museum
The Casa di Pirandello in Rome, in via Antonio Bosio, was the writer's last home. The Pirandello family lived there from 1913 to 1918; from 1933 to 1936 the writer lived there alone, and it was here, in 1934, that he received the news of the Nobel Prize. He died in Rome on 10 December 1936.
The State bought the villa in 1938, and in 1961 the custody of the Study was entrusted to the Istituto di Studi Pirandelliani e sul Teatro Contemporaneo (Institute of Pirandellian and Contemporary Theatre Studies). The rooms, on the top floor of a state building that also houses ministry offices, have remained intact.
The Institute also preserves and promotes Pirandello's library and archives, some of which can be consulted online in the digital collection, and offers a virtual tour of the Study.
