About the museum
Museion is the museum of modern and contemporary art in Bolzano. Founded in 1985 by a private association with the support of the autonomous Province, it began operating in 1987 at its premises on Via Sernesi, took the name Museion in 1991 and has focused on modern and contemporary art since 2000. On 24 May 2008 it opened its new seat in the city centre, designed by the Berlin firm KSV Krüger Schuberth Vandreike, with two bridges crossing the Talvera river.
The collection, begun at the end of the 1980s, numbers around 4,400 works and is the result of targeted acquisitions, loans and donations in collaboration with private collections. Its main research areas are Light Art and, above all, the relationship between language and art, strengthened in 2021 by the donation of the Archivio di Nuova Scrittura by Paolo Della Grazia. Around 100 works from the Enea Righi collection are entrusted to the museum on long-term loan.
The presentations of the collection in the Museion Passage spaces reflect current themes and a global perspective. The museum is also committed to accessibility, with exhibition texts also available in easy-to-read language in Italian, German and English.
