About the museum
Since 2004 the Museo A come Ambiente has been housed in Edificio 37, a building erected by Michelin in 1947 as the new entrance to the factory on Corso Umbria, later used as a canteen and as the company fire brigade's headquarters. After the factory closed, it was renovated to a design by the architect Agostino Magnaghi.
The museum was conceived by the architect Carlo Degiacomi, who directed it until 2013. It was the first museum in Europe devoted entirely to environmental issues. From the outset it developed around three themes: energy, waste and water.
Today the complex comprises three buildings linked by an inner garden: the Palazzina Storica (historic building), the Padiglione Verde designed by Carlo Ratti Associati, which houses routes on food and on the transmission of knowledge, and the Guscio, a multipurpose space for screenings, lectures, temporary exhibitions and workshops. The museum overlooks the Parco Dora, a former industrial area of Fiat and Michelin.
