About the museum
The museum stands in Valdocco, the Turin district where Don Bosco welcomed and educated thousands of boys, offering them a home, a family and a future. The display was developed on philological principles, recreating the original rooms of the second half of the 19th century.
The route includes the large cellar built in 1860–61 to store barrels and a wine press, the first refectory for the boys, used as a dining hall from 1854 to 1858, the kitchen built in 1856, and the cryptoporticus. In the cellar there is also a collection of Marian sculptures from the 131 countries in which the Salesians are present.
Furniture, textiles and objects of artistic and devotional value have undergone major restorations. Alongside the historical route, the Marian, liturgical and devotional collections can also be seen. Illustrated panels guide the visitor through the saint's life.
