About the museum
The museum originated from the donation made by Antonio Manzi, an artist from Montella in Irpinia, to the municipality of Campi Bisenzio, and opened in 2007. It occupies five rooms on the ground floor of Villa Rucellai, in the historic centre of the town.
On display are 109 works that follow Manzi’s artistic and personal journey, from his first works made at sixteen or seventeen years of age to those of the last five years before the donation. The route shows an artist who was always evolving, tied to his distinctive “segno” (line) and able to express himself with different materials and techniques: drawings, drypoints, ceramics, and bronze and marble sculptures.
Villa Rucellai, also known as Villa Il Pratello, grew out of the transformation of what was probably the oldest residence in Campi Bisenzio, a medieval fortified palace of the 13th century. A part of it is still recognisable in the tower, incorporated into the 15th-century body of the complex.
