About the museum
The Plattnerhof, near Bolzano, has a history of around 600 years, and the museum preserves its memory. In the original rooms of the farmstead one can still see an old smoke kitchen, a wooden stube and a Gothic bedroom.
The beekeeping museum in the stable and hayloft displays historic beehives, honey presses and beekeeping tools, all from South Tyrol. Guided tours tell the story of daily life on the farm, of beekeeping and of the production of pollen, propolis and honey, explaining for example why beekeepers in the past used straw hives before modern ones.
Behind the farmhouse a nature trail with nine stations crosses flowering meadows and introduces the honeybee; a quiz is provided along the trail for children.
