About the museum
The museum was founded in the 1980s on the initiative of the Centro Studi Storici per l’Alta Valle Scrivia. In 2010 the municipalities of Isola del Cantone and Savignone moved it to the Palazzo Marchionale Spinola, where the Scrivia and Vobbia streams meet. The new display was created together with the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici della Liguria and opened on 19 October 2013.
The exhibition is spread over two floors and follows a chronological route from the Neolithic to the feudal age. Finds from decades of archaeological research and objects donated by private individuals are accompanied by visual reconstructions that explain the role of the valley as a natural route between the Po Valley and the sea. The museum also offers educational programmes and guided tours.
