About the museum
The museum grew out of the idea of creating a space dedicated to the Giovi railway lines, which had their hub at Ronco Scrivia for the whole Scrivia Valley. Its core is the model layout that the entrepreneur and model railway enthusiast Piergiorgio Percivale had built to reproduce the two Giovi lines at Mignanego station; after his death in 2003 his brothers donated it to the municipality of Ronco Scrivia.
The Comitato Mastodonte dei Giovi, founded in 2002, rebuilt and expanded the layout, which was inaugurated on 23 September 2006 in a hall named after Percivale; the same year the committee became a non-profit association (ONLUS). The premises are on the first floor of the former electrical substation and have been managed by the association since 2008 under an agreement with the municipality.
Today the layout reproduces, among other places, Mignanego and Busalla station, with hidden sections and more than twenty trains in circulation. The association also collects testimonies and photographs on the history of the valley, organises exhibitions, model railway swap meets and historic train runs on the Giovi line.
