About the museum
The museum is located in the complex of the Abbey of Santa Maria, within the Parco Naturale della Rocca di Cavour (Rocca di Cavour nature park), and is housed in the former wine-vat room of the monastery. Restoration work brought to light Roman walls and a cobbled pavement in these rooms, which form part of the story of the ancient Forum Vibii Caburrum, whose remains lie within the park.
The abbey, a former Benedictine monastery, has been restored since 1978 and today includes a multipurpose hall, the headquarters of the association that runs the complex, and exhibition spaces. The crypt houses the oldest altar in Piedmont, made from three reused architectural elements of the imperial Roman age.
