About the museum
The museum was founded in 1979 on the initiative of Mario Strani and the Pro Loco of Pinerolo. Since 2013 it has been housed in Villa Prever, a Liberty-style building from 1910 surrounded by a park with centuries-old trees.
The best-known core is the mycological collection assembled by Strani over more than sixty years of work: faithful resin and plaster reproductions of European and non-European fungi. Alongside it are models of geology and geomorphology, minerals and rocks from Piedmont curated by the Gruppo Mineralogico di Pinerolo e Valli, and zoological collections with arachnids, crustaceans, molluscs, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals and lepidopterans.
The route starts from a room of fluorescent minerals and runs through Piedmont’s natural environments: nocturnal animals, plain, hill, forest, fungi, aquatic environments and mountains. The museum is part of the network of the Museo Regionale di Scienze Naturali di Torino.
