About the museum
Ramacca’s town museum reopened on 21 March 1998 after the premises were restored, with a new exhibition room and the recovery of a space that had been used as a storeroom. The extension made it possible to create two sections: a palaeontological one with numerous fossils, and a mineralogical one, set up with materials collected by volunteers of the Fondo Siciliano per la Natura.
The archaeological collection occupies the main room, in five display cases arranged in chronological order: from the Mesolithic and Neolithic to the Copper and Bronze Ages, and on to the Greek, Roman and medieval materials of the territory. The largest part of the finds comes from the indigenous settlement of Montagna (late 8th to 5th century BC), with indigenous and Greek pottery, ornamental objects and everyday items.
The museum also carries out scientific and educational activities, with a team of scholars and student volunteers, and is linked to the archaeological park of the Ramacca area.
