About the museum
The Sebastiano Guzzone Civic Museum is housed in the former Dominican convent of Militello in Val di Catania, a historic building dating from 1613, with its entrance from Via Porta della Terra. It was officially opened in 2006 and, alongside the exhibition rooms, houses the municipal library and spaces for lectures.
The collections include Magna Graecia pottery and the high relief of the Ninfa Zizza, a large series of historical public notices from the 17th century up to the Anglo-American occupation, and collections of 19th- and 20th-century paintings by local artists such as Sebastiano Guzzone, Giuseppe Barone and Santo Marino.
