About the museum
The museum is the treasury of the sanctuary of Santa Maria della Stella, the Baroque church of Militello in Val di Catania, which was inscribed in 2002 on the UNESCO list of the late Baroque towns of the Val di Noto. It is set up in rooms of the church that were originally intended as the sacristy, and it was opened in 1995.
The collection brings together a great variety of precious objects, in particular silverware and sacred furnishings from the 15th to the 18th century, coming from the mother church and from the subsidiary churches of the town. The heritage also includes the silver crowns and the star of the statue of the Madonna della Stella, with the three silver keys needed to unveil the image.
