About the museum
The Mineo civic museum, named after “Corrado Tamburino Merlini”, is housed in a former Jesuit monastery of the 17th century. The display follows two criteria: the historical one, from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages, and the topographical one, with materials grouped by site of origin.
Most of the finds come from excavations by the Soprintendenza ai beni culturali (heritage authority) of Catania in localities such as Camuti, Monte Catalfaro and Settefeudi. Among the objects on display are transport amphorae, inscriptions and materials from a Byzantine basilica and a castle. The finds from the sanctuary of the Palici are presented instead in the Antiquarium of the archaeological site.
An audio guide is available for the museum through the izi.travel app.
