About the museum
The civic archaeological museum was established by a resolution of the municipal executive (Giunta) of 18 January 1972, designed and set up in 1993, and opened to the public on 9 April 1994. It stands in the upper part of Frosinone's historic centre, in a small palace incorporated into a building complex that in papal times housed the seat of local government.
The collections, originally kept in various storerooms, were brought together after long research and recovery work. They comprise finds from the city and the surrounding area, from the prehistoric period to the Roman imperial age, and they continue to grow thanks to private donations, chance finds and new investigations in the area of the amphitheatre, the Ponte della Fontana, the Tomba Sant’Angelo and the bell tower of Santa Maria.
The route is arranged in three chronological sections: prehistory and protohistory; the Archaic age, with documentation on the Volsci; and the Roman age, with the history of Frusino. A separate section presents the numismatic collection of Vittorio Palermo, made up of 250 Roman coins. The museum also has a branch in the town hall in Via Cavour and offers educational activities for schools, families and groups.
