About the museum
The museum is housed in the Palazzo Aldobrandini, in the highest part of the historic centre of Carpineto Romano. The building retains elements of medieval fortification, including a 13th-century bell tower and defensive buttresses, and belonged to several noble families, among them the Aldobrandini, who held it until the mid-19th century.
Today it is the town’s civic museum and presents the origins and history of Carpineto in nine sections, with objects, panels, photographs and charts. The story begins in the era of the Volsci and covers traces of the agro-pastoral economy, farming traditions, the costumes of the Palio della Carriera and the art preserved in the churches and monasteries of the area.
