About the museum
The museum is housed in a 16th-century building in the centre of Nocera Umbra, formerly the bishop's seminary, and is linked to the documentation centre for the archaeological sites of the area. It presents the history of human settlement around Nocera from the Lower Palaeolithic to the Early Middle Ages.
The prehistoric section includes Palaeolithic stone tools, Neolithic pottery and material from the Middle Bronze Age. The protohistoric section documents hilltop settlements from the 8th century BC, with grave goods and ritual objects. A large part is devoted to the Roman period and the Via Flaminia, with a large model of its infrastructure (substructures, bridges, culverts), and to ancient Nuceria, with a large mosaic of a late imperial bath complex and finds from the Roman villa Zingaretti.
The early medieval section holds the grave goods from the Lombard necropolis of Portone, known in national and international research circles, and material from the Pettinara burial.
